It's Day Three - Welcome Back!
Today's theme is favorite drink! This is going against the grain a little bit, becuase anyone that knows me well, knows that I love a margarita. I make them from scratch, with fresh pressed lime and orange and I am always trying to perfect it. I think mine are better than most.
However, about a month ago my husband and I toasted my beloved mother, who passed away right before Thanksgiving last year, with her favorite drink - THE OLD FASHIONED. We were astounded that it was such a well concocted drink. With hints of orange and cherry, fine burbon and bitters. So we've been on the hunt for the best old fashioned ever since. Here's the recipe.
1 sugar cube, or 1 teaspoon agave nectar
3 dashes Angostura bitters
2 ounces high quality bourbon
1 tablespoon club soda
1 thin strip of orange peel
In a rocks glass, combine the sugar cube, bitters and club soda. Muddle to a paste. Stir in the bourbon. Add ice and garnish with a two-inch strip of orange peel. One large cube or ice ball, don't water down with too much ice. Enjoy!
